Job Summary

Role & Responsibilities:

A Nurse Extern will be sent to a unit in need and be given responsibilities including but not limiting to:

  • Direct patient care : bathing, feeding, ambulating, and daily care.
  • Taking delegation from the RN and helping with tasks as assigned and within their scope such as checking blood glucose or wound care.
  • They may be asked to sit with patients requiring 1:1 observation or assisting with patient transport.
  • They will also be required to document in the EMR.

Core Job Responsibilities

Expectations:

 

The Nurse Externs will be assigned to a campus. Once assigned, they will report to that campus to the Hospital Supervisor and sent to the unit in greatest need. This will vary shift to shift based on need.

The time commitment will be at least 8 hours per pay period, to be completed in 4. 6. 8 or 12 hour blocks. They can work as much or as little within those requirements as fits their schedule.

They should coincide with structured start times such as 7-11, 3-7, etc.

They cannot wear their school scrubs as this is a separate role. Any other color scrubs is fine.
