AR Supervisor - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

The A/R Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of multiple areas within the department. They are responsible for coordination and supervision of accounts receivable staff to ensure that the hospital can collect on all outstanding balances due by either patient or insurance and that all payments & adjustments are posted accurately and in a timely manner in an effort to maximize an efficient work flow within the department and increasing the hospital's cash flow; ensuring all is done in accordance with any rules/regulations such as the NYS Fair Debt Collection Laws.

Core Job Responsibilities

  1. (40%) Compliance: The A/R Supervisor oversees mulitple areas within a fully intergrated accounts receivable department. Responsible for auditing of their appropriate areas to ensure staff are following up on all outstanding patient balances timely and accurately; as well as within all departmental, organizational & regulatory policies and procedures. Auditing should include; but not be limited to, identifying any issues affecting work flow, monitoring staff to verify they are meeting or exceeding accuracy standard goals, researching accounts to ensure payors are processing claims in accordance with signed contracts and state/governmental regulations.
  2. (30%) Quality: The A/R Supervisor monitors appropriate follow up procedures with staff to achieve the expected reimbursement/payment in a timely manner. Provides education & support; along with guidance when standards are not met. Ensures all staff engage in quality improvement initiatives within the department and organization to include; but not limited to, continued education for all processes/procedures, participating in quality improvement teams, and identifying areas of improvement while displaying an openness for change.
  3. (20%) Service Excellence: The A/R Supervisor has administrative oversight of their respective areas for monitoring staffing to ensure there is appropriate coverage to meet work load in the area and approving time off requests as applicable. The A/R Supervisor is responsible for completing yearly Performance Reviews for all staff under their supervison. The A/R Supervisor monitors that all staff are communicating effectively and in a professional manner within the organization as well as with patients & outside business associates while promoting a good working relationship. Also monitors staff to be sure any issues/concerns by business associates or patients are handled quickly & efficiently to ensure a positive service recovery.
  4. (10%) Delivery of Customer Service: The A/R Supervisor monitors staff to ensure they provide excellent customer service to patients and their families; as well as insurance companies and all business associates, that will meet or exceed patient expectations to include; but not limited to, offering empathic and compassionate patient-centered assistance and communication with patient billing and follow-up on their accounts until payment resolution. The A/R Supervisor monitors that staff comply with hospital-wide guidelines and Departmental policies and procedures; conducting job duties in an ethical, honest and professional manner with internal and external customers; to include, but not limited to: always speaking on the telephone with courtesy, demonstrating teamwork & always portraying a positive attitude.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required: 

  • High School Graduate

Preferred: 

  • Associate Degree
