Director of Infrastructure - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

The Director of Information Technology provides dynamic, responsive, collaborative and forward-thinking vision, leadership and management of technology systems and services to support the mission and goals of Mohawk Valley Health System. This includes the planning, development, implementation, management and maintenance of applications, infrastructure, security, networks, and technology training.  Responsible for enterprise infrastructure staff as well as other key technical applications and resources, including staff.  Serves as a lead partner in executing strategic priorities and delivering a superior patient and staff experience.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the activities of an effective and efficient Infrastructure team, including the Network Services, Security, Distributed Systems and Desktop Support teams.  Promote and serve as a role model a culture of service excellence and customer service within the IT function.
  • Direct, organize, and coordinate the effective use of resources to support a full spectrum of IT needs across the health system.  Direct assigned staff to maintain or implement large and highly complex systems and projects supporting the health system.  Ensures that hardware and software across the organization is operating effectively.
  • Identify, propose and integrate new technologies to improve and leverage existing applications.  Develop solutions by applying accepted processes or create new approaches to leverage technology and improve the operation.
  • In collaboration with other leaders, manage the project approval and selection process for technology-related initiatives. Assist in finding or recommending solutions that improve quality, patient safety, efficiency, and productivity. Educate and influence leadership, committees and employees on the most effective use of technology, from both a short-term and long-term perspective. 
  • Collaborate with clinicians, analysts, outside consultants, and vendors in planning, developing, testing, revising and maintaining the infrastructure and associated systems.
  • Ensure that all information technology initiatives have clear business goals and measurable success metrics.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts effectively. Develop, monitor and manage operating budgets to optimize financial performance. Identify opportunities to reduce expenses through standardization and improved contracting.
  • In partnership with Human Resources and leadership, make recommendations or decisions on employee hires, corrective actions, terminations, promotions and similar actions. Complete performance reviews for the area, complete employee incident reports, and ensure correction of deficiencies, also in partnership with HR. 
  • Provide effective leadership, communication, and collaboration with colleagues and organizational leaders. Create, promote and maintain collaborative relationships with employees throughout the organization using active listening, unbiased and nonjudgmental language, and an open communication style.
  • Develop and utilize performance metrics or process improvements to continually assess and improve quality and operating efficiency, as well as customer service.
  • Keep current in trends in enterprise software solutions and hardware developments. Facilitate and promote employee learning and development.
  • Perform related duties as directed.
     

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

This is an onsite position.  A limited hybrid schedule can be discussed but is not guaranteed.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science and/or a computer science discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT management, preferably in a multi-site healthcare or clinical research environment.
  • 4+ years management or supervisory experience.
  • In depth understanding of network infrastructure, operating systems, inter/intranet strategies as well as protocols, routing and security, telecommunications and systems management across multiple locations.
  • Requires a broad conceptual understanding of capabilities and direction of application technology, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the technology required and the needs of clinical environments necessary to support assigned systems and/or projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills e.g., job knowledge, professionalism, problem solving, communication skills, etc. to lead, guide and motivate others.
     

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science and/or a computer science discipline.
