Paralegal - Full Time - Days
Job Summary
The Paralegal provides essential legal and administrative support to the hospital's Legal Affairs department. This position assists attorneys and the legal department with a variety of legal and regulatory matters including contract review, litigation support, compliance, risk management, and health care law research. The Paralegal plays a critical role in helping the Mohawk Valley Health system operate within applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and revise contracts, legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda under the supervision of legal counsel.
- Support system to legal team in managing litigation, subpoenas, and other legal proceedings, including compiling documentation and maintaining case files.
- Conduct legal and factual research related to healthcare regulations, licensure, HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and other relevant legal issues.
- Assist with due diligence processes and documentation for business transactions or affiliations.
- Arrange depositions and meetings. Inform parties of meeting logistics and prepare necessary materials.
- Maintain and organize legal and compliance files, databases, and contract management systems.
- Track contract terms, renewal dates, and obligations to ensure compliance.
- Assist with incident report reviews and support risk management functions.
- Prepare documentation for regulatory and accreditation reviews or audits.
- Coordinate responses to requests for information, such as FOIA or patient records, in collaboration with Compliance, Risk, and other business teams.
- Communicate with internal departments and external parties (e.g., vendors, insurers, outside counsel) as necessary.
- Perform related duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Associates degree in Paralegal studies or equivalent work experience.
- 1-3 years of administrative, legal assistant experience in law firm or healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, contracts, and medical-legal terminology.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
PREFERRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
PREFERRED:
- Notary Public certification.
