POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide 24-hour direction and guidance of nursing services in the dialysis clinic providing oversight and direction to all direct care staff that provide dialysis and nursing care in the clinic.  The Nurse Manager works in collaboration with the Dialysis Provider, RNs, LPNs, PCTs and other members of the multidisciplinary team to plan, direct, and evaluate the quality of care management of the patient, promoting the delivery of high, quality patient care. The Nurse Manager is responsible for assistance with budget development, supervision of nursing staff, staff performance evaluations, recruitment, hiring, holding staff accountable and assuring staff is maintaining compliance with MVHS policy and procedures, and Medicare ESRD regulations.  Must be competent to care for, assess and treat patients to provide nursing support as needed.  Supports the values and goals of MVHS and the Renal Dialysis Program.  Reports to Director of Operations and/or Executive Director of Dialysis.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICESNSURE:

  • Current Professional Nurse Registration in New York State-required
  • 12 months’ experience in clinical nursing with an additional 6 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis-required
  • Bachelor’s Degree – required or have plan in place to complete 
  • CDN or CNN-preferred
  • Previous Dialysis Nurse Manager experience-preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, providers, and staff-required
  • Experience/familiarity with CyberRen, EPIC, KRONOS, CROWNWeb, NHSN, MIDAS+Care Management, Dialysis ESRD regulations-preferred
     
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: 
  • Day to day operations of the clinic to include but not limited to patient, clinic, and personal management
  • Serves as a role model by demonstrating effective direct patient centered care, leadership, and professional behavior
  • Plans and provides a staffing schedule that meets the needs to provide direct nursing care
  • Conducts performance evaluations to include, if needed, appropriate counseling in relation to performance with potential discipline. 
  • Recognizes employee I-CARE performance and utilizes I-CARE program
  • Participates in the recruitment process, including interviewing and selection of staff
  • Informs, educates, and enforces adherence to MVHS and the Dialysis Program’s policies and procedures.
  • Works in collaboration with the Dialysis Clinician for the training and precepting of all new and established staff members.
  • Supervises and serves as a clinical resource to clinic staff, educating and mentoring staff members
  • Develops, maintains and evaluates patient care standards including but not limited to hepatitis management, immunization management, care plan coordination, anemia management, vascular access management, tracking and trending lab values and adverse occurrences
  • Attends and participates in Renal QAPI, monitoring quality goals
  • Assists in the oversight of the daily operations of dialysis sites; maintains effective and efficient work flow
  • Promotes internal and external customer service
  • Assess and proactively address potential patient and/or staff issues
  • Addresses patient complaints
  • Works with Dialysis Providers and Program Director to improve/maintain quality care
  • Assists with projects that improve quality service to include but not limited to Island Peer Review Organization (IPRO), ESRD Network 2, etc. 
  • Participates/assists with Infection Prevention audits, Department of Health (DOH) Audits, DNV audits, Emergency Preparedness, etc.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed
  • Assists other dialysis clinics as needed
  • Participates in Plan of Correction (POC)
  • Assists with CROWNWeb as needed
  • Assists with payroll
  • Conducts monthly dialysis clinic safety audits, pharmacy audits, etc. as needed
  • Reports infections to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull.  Walking and standing most of the shift.
