Technical Lab Aide - Laboratory - Full Time (1.06) - Evening

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director and the Director of Laboratory Services, and Laboratory Manager. Assists technical personnel with assigned tasks, instrument maintenance, and inventory.  Receives patients, correctly identifies patients, collects specimens from patients, transports specimens, and processes specimens.
Core Job Responsibilities
1 Delivery of Administrative Services:  Maintains a productive workflow by identifying appropriate priority of tasks, establishes and maintains lines of communication and rapport within the department and other hospital personnel, demonstrates knowledge on computer software and specimen management, ensures priority of requests, arranging workload to provide for optimal patient care and efficienty. Manages inventory. Receives in and distributes reagents and supplies. Assists in Medical Center sponsored blood drives.
2 Compliance with Hospital Wide and Departmental Policies and Procedures:   Adheres to confidentiality of patient information  with interdepartmental and external request,   demonstrates ethical, honest and professionalism with all internal and external consumers,  ensures accuracy with specimen receiving, issuing blood products, and performs instrument maintenance following standard procedures. Uses department equipment (telephone, computers, software) appropriately and for professional use only, 
3 Participates in Quality Improvement Practices:  Ensures timely turnaround of patient results (turnaround times, unfinished work list(s), distribution of results, communication with consumers); follows up on internal and external departmental request;  participates in educational opportunities; identifies area of departmental process improvement and exhibits openness to change; specimen labeling is complete and accurate. Correct tests are drawn and collected and orders are checked against computer system for accuracy and discrepancies resolved. Performs specimen collection as needed.
4 Safety and Environment of Care:  Adheres to envoi mental standards for patient/visitor/staff safety; Practices hand washing and sanitation practices; reports unsafe conditions; responds appropriately to all codes and drills,  demonstrates proper packaging of specimens and storing; practices standard precautions with  all chemical and specimen handling. Stocks and supplies and re-orders supplies. Cleans and disnfect work areas, refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, plasma thawers, etc.. Uses Biologicla Safety Cabinet and proper PPE.
5 Service Excellence:  The technical lab aid is expected to exhibit teamwork and adhere to icare values within the department,  with hospital personnel  and external consumer interactions, All service delivery should performed with a positive attitude and in a professional manner; exhibits patient centered care with all delivery.
Education Requirements
Required minimum of 2 year degree in Science - such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry

Required Experience
Preferred Phlebotomy work experience, lab assistant work experience, or other healthcare experience preferred
