Bariatric Registered Dietician - Full Time - Days

Department:  MG BARIATRIC SURGERY

Job Summary

The Dietitian will provide medical nutrition therapy in an outpatient setting working directly with patients.

Additionally, this role will assume responsibilities in leading the operation and function of the clinic/department.  Responsible for workflow oversight to ensure efficient patient care delivery and professional administrative excellence including the planning, coordination, and implementation of staff education, training, and development; resource management and allocation of clinical and clerical teams.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough nutrition assessments and provide Medical Nutrition Therapy and education for all bariatric surgery candidates, via telehealth and in person appointments. Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy and education for post-op patients as needed. Plan patient lectures and presentations.
  • Maintain bariatric nutrition protocols including biochemical assay procedures.
  • Responsible for staff and provider education on nutritional needs of bariatric and general surgery patients.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all nutrition education and patient encounters in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Serve as the liaison with clinical, quality, and management staff at MVHS to support quality care and efficient workflow.
  • Collaborate/confer with leadership team on key aspects of patient care and business health; e.g., EMR/IT efficiency, quality of clinical care, compliance with healthcare regulations, recruitment of staff/human resources input, and quality of documentation procedures to help facilitate seamless insurance authorization and definitive coding outcomes.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care and policy/procedure effectiveness and efficiency, identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence-based practices (when applicable) to advance positive outcomes.
  • Support staff and patients by addressing complex patient concerns/inquiries to result in the delivery of excellent customer and patient care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in practice and hospitals and other institutions including to provide comprehensive patient care.

Education/Experience Requirements

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:               

  • Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian, required
  • Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist by the New York State Education Department, required
  • Bachelor's degree, inherent to allow for RD credential.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and team management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in EMR and other software systems, medical billing/coding/insurance procedures and healthcare regulations and compliance requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree preferred.        
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency in clinical areas

Licensure/Certification Requirements

  • Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist by the New York State Education Department, required
