Cardiac Services Registry Coord - Full Time - Days
Job Summary
The Cardiac Services Registry Coordinator is responsible for ensuring accurate, complete and timely data abstraction and entry into all appropriate Cardiovascular Registries. Coordinates the Cardiac services data collection, abstraction and submission activities utilizing internal and external resources. Provides registry data and information back to key stakeholders in a meaningful way to drive program development and quality improvement using standard registry products and analytic tools.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Complies lists for abstraction based on inclusion or exclusion criteria and delegates assignments to abstractors. Performs in-depth chart reviews for all cardiovascular patient procedures for inclusion into National and/or State registries.
- Utilizes registry definitions when abstracting data elements and interprets medical information to assist in adjudicating events.
- Performs validation of data prior to submission to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Works with team to analyze and validate deficiencies in the data and correct prior to submission. Ensures timely submission to registries.
- Communicates any data documentation needs to support accurate and high reliable data collection and reporting
- Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
- Serves as an educational resource and super user on National and State Registries for internal and external audiences as needed. Troubleshoots issues or problems on abstraction or related tasks.
- Ensures the delivery of quality department /clinical services in accordance with hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards
- Analyzes data for the cardiac service line prior to submissions. Data includes adverse events, metric outliers, and all key outcome variables. Reviews and analyzes data in published outcomes reports.
- Prepares presentations for Cardiovascular service line meetings including reviews of all adverse events/deaths and opportunities for improvement as identified through review of data.
- Ensures all registry deadlines are met.
- Works with the cardiac team to identify trends in data and reports information to stakeholders. Reviews and interprets outcomes reports.
- Collaborates with IT, physician experts and other staff. Assists in ongoing development and implementation of registries.
- Prepares materials to educate Cardiovascular service line staff when data collection elements or processes change.
- Participates in training, webinars and conferences specific to the registry programs.
- Regularly participates in related quality improvement activities at both the organization and system level as appropriate
- Establishes collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders throughout the system, including but not limited to the Medical Staff, Nursing Staff, Emergency Department, etc.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- 3 years of experience in the care of the cardiac patient, cath lab or cardiac surgery.
- Strong clinical knowledge of cardiovascular services and procedures.
- Comprehensive understanding in the use of medical records to abstract data.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and E&M coding, DRG systems.
- Excellent knowledge of personal computers and related software (including but not limited to Microsoft Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Experience with data collection, basic statistical analysis, and use of data dictionaries.
- Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, able to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
PREFERRED:
- BSN
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Registered Nurse in NY State.
