Job Summary
Under the general supervision and direction of the Electrophysiology Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, renders direct patient care in accordance with the developmental level of the patient and treats human responses to actual or potential health problems, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with the standards established by the State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA, Standards of Care, and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of Wynn Hospital and MVHS.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Applies the nursing process to assess and reassess the patient throughout procedures by observing, collecting and recording data pre, intra and post procedure.
- Promotes and maintains sterile field environment setting up tables, preparing patients and scrubbing/assisting the EP cardiologist.
- Operates hemodynamic monitors, computers and documents events during procedures.
- Recognizes and assesses emergent patient care situations, directs and documents care given to include patient and family response.
- Participates in meticulous patient/device record keeping documents.
- Responsible for inventory management and restocking.
- Assists in EP studies, tilt table tests, ablations, device implants, cardioversions, follow-up studies.
- Demonstrates responsibility and serious intent to expand EP specific knowledge and prepare/take the NASPE exam within 2-3 years with independent study, in-service attendance and continuing education.
- Takes proactive approach to identifying and managing unit situations and addressing customer (patient, family, co-workers and other department) needs.
- Promotes and maintains overall department cleanliness.
- Appropriately assesses and administers conscious sedation to the geriatric patient.
- Explains procedures in terms appropriate for the developmental level of each adult patient.
- Uses scientifically accepted Infection Prevention techniques to prevent and reduce the risk of acquiring and or transmitting infections and manage all body fluids from all persons at all times.
- Follows all infection control policies and procedures, uses scientifically accepted infection prevention techniques and PPE, and handles or cleans tools, equipment and work surfaces appropriately.
- Completes all required training and educational programs.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff by sharing knowledge, experiences and providing verbal encouragement. Services as a resource and role model to others in the department.
- Participates in all quality and performance improvement activities.
- Complies with all MVHS and departmental policies, procedures, Codes of Conduct, standards, etc.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Graduate of an accredited registered nurse training program.
- Previous critical care experience.
PREFERRED:
- Procedural experience and/or EP experience.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in NY State.
- BCLS and ACLS required or obtained immediately after hire.
