Job Summary

The Employee and Labor Relations Director will assist leaders with labor contract and policy interpretation, as well as with disciplinary and grievance procedures.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Interpret collective bargaining agreements and advise management and union officials in the application and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices
  • Participate and represent management in meetings with labor officials
  • Assist in the development of responses to complaints or charges from outside agencies
  • Facilitate training on key employee relations issues and ensure adherence to the proper administration of the progressive discipline process
  • Schedule meetings between parties in labor disputes to investigate and resolve issues
  • Maintain human resources policy manuals and update policies and handbooks as needed
  • Monitor implementation of human resources policies to ensure compliance
  • Conduct investigations into employee issues, from incident report through final disposition
  • Ensure compliance with all labor and employment laws
  • Monitor unemployment claims and represent management in unemployment hearings
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned

Education Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Labor/Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive human resources generalist experience with a particular emphasis on labor relations in a union setting
  • Thorough knowledge of state, federal employment and labor laws, and governmental compliance requirements
  • Able to operate independently, understanding when to escalate issues


SHRM certification, PHR certification preferred
