Director of Nursing - Behavioral Health - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

The Director of Nursing, Quality directs and integrates a culture of nursing excellence by developing and leading the annual planning process of the nursing strategic plan. Leads care process improvement through design, implementation, integration, and ongoing evolution of processes and systems within the health system. Serves as a liaison between clinicians ancillary departments, Information Technology, and Quality. Acts as a change agent for health system leaders and clinicians to promote adoption of new processes, technologies and achievement; and sustainment of expected benefits moving the organization to achieve in excellence in patient safety indicators, Leap Frog, CMS Star Rating, value based purchasing, and other Quality Programs.

Core Job Responsibilities

• Leads care process improvement through design, implementation, integration, and ongoing evolution of processes and systems within the health system. Serves as a liaison between clinicians, ancillary departments, and Information Technology (IT) to align clinical and IT standards with department workflow, processes, and policies. Acts as a change agent for health system leaders and clinicians to promote adoption of new processes, technologies and achievement; and sustainment of expected benefits; hence, moving the organization to achieve excellence.
• Utilize robust evaluative metrics to measure outcomes, evaluate existing quality, risk-management, and clinical performance data in order to identify opportunities that would enhance clinical outcomes. Develops, monitors, and evaluates plan for employee satisfaction, turnovers, and other human resource metrics for the Nursing Division.
• Integrates and coordinates the development, implementation, and tracking of quality improvement and patient safety activities. Designs programs to evaluate patient care and to identify, and correct deficiencies; identifies opportunities to improve systems and the patient-care delivery process. Develops and maintains quality-monitoring systems, performs and facilitates quality assurance reviews. Works closely with the hospital Performance and Accreditation, Patient Safety, Risk and Compliance and represents the Division of Nursing on task force related to safety and quality. Serves as a nursing liaison with regulatory bodies.
• Ensures Nursing Leadership is regularly apprised of data, plans for improvement, and progress towards goals to include Nursing Department Dashboards, nursing turnover and vacancy reports, Nurse-sensitive patient satisfaction data, Nurse-sensitive clinical indicators, Nurse satisfaction and other as identified. Uses appropriate communication channels to ensure timely communication of information in the proper forum to all stakeholder.
• Provides critical analysis and evaluation of health IT and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflow to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes.
• Promotes advancement and development of clinical and business intelligence systems capable of reporting variables to evaluate patient outcomes, to support research, and operational improvement across continuum of care.
• Proactively develops change management strategy for major nursing organizational activities and events. Implement change management strategy within nursing in alignment with MVHS's Mission and Vision. Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans focusing on moving Quality Needle and producing measurable results.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with demonstrated experience in the clinical setting
• Experience in problem analysis and project management
• Experience with responsibilities for quality or performance improvement, information systems, and nursing leadership

Preferred: 

• Master's Degree; Ten (10) years nursing experience in a clinical healthcare setting
• Five (5) or more years experience in directing/leading Quality/Performance Improvement in a formal leadership position
• Three (3) years experience in IT or clinical information systems

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Required: 

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse with the State of New York

Preferred: 

• Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
