Director of Rehab Services - Full Time
Job Summary
The Director of Rehabilitation Services provides leadership, strategic direction and vision for MVHS Rehabilitation Services. The Director is responsible for the strategic planning, development, performance improvement, evaluation and administration of the comprehensive medical rehabilitation program and services throughout the continuum of care across all Mohawk Valley Health System sites.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Directs, supervises, and coordinates the activities of the Departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Hearing and Speech, and Recreational Therapy. This includes inpatient and outpatient therapy at the Wynn Hospital, IRU and outpatient therapy sites.
- Has direct clinical oversight for all Speech Therapy and Audiology services throughout the system, the MVHS Outpatient Rehabilitation (physical and occupational therapy) program, and the rehabilitation therapy programs at the IRU and RNC.
- Serves as a consultant for Rehabilitation Services at the RNC.
- Directs and supervises the Employee Safety and Patient Handling Specialist.
- Ensures staffing, scheduling and work assignments promote the smooth and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services and meet patient demand across the system.
- Provides direct or indirect support to the Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIIRP) and Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (DPMR), in order to facilitate compliance with federal and state regulations, established hospital standards and policies, and CARF accreditation requirements.
- Understands and follows regulatory statutes and rules applicable to the practice of rehabilitative services as well as the various accreditation and regulatory agency requirements for all inpatient and outpatient programs. Develops, revises and communicates changes to policies and procedures across the service line. Serves as a resource for rehab regulatory and compliance questions.
- Provides strategic direction for rehabilitation services while staying within the objectives / goals of MVHS organization wide.
- Partners effectively and proactively with physicians, admissions staff, families and all customers or stakeholders. Coordinates activities to ensure efficient, seamless service delivery.
- Develops operating budgets and monitors expenses.
- Assumes responsibility for a quality environment, setting performance improvement priorities and supporting improvement activities to meet goals.
- Monitors resources utilized in service delivery at all sites and determines appropriateness of resource consumption in the service; enhances effectiveness and efficiency of as well as satisfaction with patient care delivery; develops recommendations for appropriate care, redesigning as necessary, and coordinates implementation.
- Plays a role in EMR optimization.
- Compiles and prepares reports and analyses related to productivity, resources and patient care.
- Ensures staff have the training, tools and resources to deliver effective rehabilitation therapies as prescribed.
- In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, makes decisions related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolves staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.
- Keeps current in best practices and trends in Rehabilitation Services.
- Manages and reviews various contracts for vendors, educational services/students, payors etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIERED:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Rehabilitation field.
- Seven years of experience in a rehabilitation field.
- Four years of management experience.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Medical Rehabilitation standards and application.
- Knowledge and understanding of reimbursement rules and regulations as they apply to therapy services.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing abilities.
- Leadership abilities, e.g., job knowledge, professionalism, critical thinking skills, etc. to lead, guide and motivate others.
- Highly proficient with MS office and able to learn new software rapidly.
- Ability to travel frequently between worksites in a variety of weather conditions.
PREFERRED:
- Master’s degree or Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy and Language Pathology.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIERED:
- Active NYS license as OT, PT or SLP.
