Infection Preventionist II - Full Time - Days
Job Summary
The Infection Preventionist II is responsible for the prevention, identification, investigation, reporting, and control of health care associated infections (HAI) with the day-to-day infection prevention activities for any designated healthcare facility, clinic and healthcare service throughout the continuum of care for Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) in accordance with accepted standards and requirements of infection prevention.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Applies epidemiologic principles and statistical methods to design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes.
- Conducts surveillance and epidemiologic investigations to monitor the effectiveness of prevention and control strategies that are consistent with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Evaluates significance of findings and makes recommendations for improvement based on those findings.
- Performs electronic surveillance and integrates manual and electronic findings for comprehensive reporting.
- Regularly uses NHSN surveillance and may validate surveillance conducted by others.
- Uses advanced statistical tools and complex data display tools to communicate findings.
- Demonstrates understanding of criteria for accreditation and other quality requirements pertaining to infection prevention and control.
- Develops evidenced-based/informed infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Applies essential Performance Improvement and Implementation Science tools and methods to projects.
- Participates in goal planning activities and program assessment.
- Applies principles of management and communication to Infection Prevention activities.
- Uses adult learning principals when preparing and presenting education materials.
- Performs all duties of the Infection Preventionist I.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Baccalaureate degree in a health related field.
- 2 years of experience in Infection Prevention.
- Meets all criteria required of the Infection Preventionist I.
- Basic statistical analysis skills.
- Developing management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to interact with diverse groups, fostering collaboration and collegiality.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Skilled in the provision of providing guidance, advice and assistance in problem resolution to render win/win outcomes for safe patient outcomes.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
