Job Summary

The Medical Education Coordinator (MEC) coordinates all aspects of Medical Student Education (for Medical Schools other than LECOM). This  includes core rotation scheduling; elective rotation application, selection and scheduling. The MEC provides the same coordination for Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant students. The MEC acts as a liaison between MVHS, each medical learner and their schools. The MEC communicates with faculty and attending physicians in various specialties to facilitate thet experience and satisfaction of the medical learner and physician educators. The MEC supports the Medical Education Manager in the daily operation, goals and objectives of the department of Graduate and Medical Education.

Core Job Responsibilities

The MEC is responsible for the daily operations of Medical and Podiatry Students, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant rotations in accordance to policies and procedures relating to the program and curriculum. This includes but is not limited to:

  • The integration of student coordination across the MVHS system and private offices
  • Coordinate Pipeline Programs
  • Creates and maintains block schedules, keeping students aware of assignments and didactics
  • Administers the student evaluation process: monitors evaluations on student performance from faculty and house staff at multiple facilities; coordinates and implements examinations; administers and proctors exams.
  • Managing Medical School affiliation budgets, billing and reconciliation
  • Attending and recruiting Medical Students at recruitment fairs
  • The growth and development of student education
  • Collaborating with the Onboarding Specialist  with Onboarding and Offboarding all students    

The MEC functions as a first-contact liaison to students, residents,  and school administration for any issues or questions relating to the clerkships.   This includes but is not limited to:

  • Coordinating and participating in regularly scheduled visits to community preceptor sites in an effort to develop and maintain a good working relationship with the ultimate goal of improving the community preceptors experience in working with students. 
  • Acts as a first point of contact and establishes and maintains an effective  working relationship with Medical School, Hospital ( within and outside of MVHS), and other schools employees.
  • Maintains contact with hospitals, attending physicians and preceptors and stays alert to and recognizes student performance and behavior problems.
  • Facilitates resolution of problems or notifies the Sr. Medical Education Coordinator as appropriate.
  • Maintains student information via the Medical School's learning management system.
  • Anticipates expenditures and generates corresponding purchase orders (preceptor payments, tracking of expenditures).

Education/Experience Requirements

Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, a related field, or equivalent experience


Preferred:  Experience in a Graduate Medical Education Office
