Manager, Volunteer Services - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

The Manager of Volunteer Services manages and promotes the volunteer program of MVHS to increase volunteer capacity, build volunteer engagement, augment hospital services and foster a commitment to the hospital and its mission.  Partners with MVHS departments to ensure volunteer activities supplement essential services within the healthcare system and contribute to total patient care. Coordinates activities and functions of the Volunteer Association and participates on the Volunteer Association Board.  Manages a financially feasible gift shop and vendor sales with a selection of quality gift items.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Recruits volunteers to ensure a robust roster of individuals representing all ages and cultural backgrounds within the community. Interviews and evaluates volunteer applicants for acceptability and placement. 
  • Trains, orients and in-services new employees and volunteers on department and hospital processes. 
  • Identifies and cultivates partnership opportunities with community programs to promote the MVHS volunteer program.  Acts as an ambassador for the organization.  
  • Collaborates with department leaders to promote the effective use of volunteers throughout the hospital and to assess where the utilization of volunteers will be most beneficial.
  • Schedules volunteers for service areas. 
  • Oversees and coordinates volunteers to support Gift Shop operations and the vendor.  Collaborates with Vendor to ensure the retail shop is running efficiently and effectively.
  • Develops new volunteer programs and expands existing ones in response to needs of healthcare system.
  • Ensures volunteers meet annual compliance requirements. Develops and conducts annual update training or educational tools for volunteers. 
  • Ensures that volunteers are evaluated at least annually based upon performance and/or department’s request. 
  • Maintains open and frequent communication with volunteers and teammates.
  • Schedules, prepares information for, and attends monthly Board meetings.
  • Establishes operational policies and procedures for the department.
  • Oversees fund raising activities of the MVHS Volunteer Association to include vendor sale revenue and acting as the liaison between MVHS and the company running the Wynn Hospital gift shop.
  • Regularly rounds with patients to determine and resolve issues, when possible, which impact patient satisfaction.
  • In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, makes decisions or recommendations related to staff performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc.  Resolves staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.
  • Keeps leadership informed of issues, challenges and opportunities.
  • Sets departmental goals and objectives consistent with those of the institution. 
  • Prepares annual and other departmental reports with appropriate statistical information.
  • Prepares annual department budget and monitors throughout the year.   
  • Plans and implements special projects for the department, including annual and ad hoc volunteer recognition programs and other events.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.    
     

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:    

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of experience in volunteer administration or a related area. 
  • Leadership skills, e.g., judgement, professionalism, and job knowledge to lead, guide and motivate others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong organization and planning ability.
