Manager PT / OT Long Term Care - Full Time - Days
Job Summary
The Manager, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Long Term Care provides overall management of the assigned department, including budgeting, controlling operational costs and revenues, customer relations, staff development, human resource management, regulatory and accreditation compliance. Oversees rehabilitation staff to include Physical, Occupational, Speech Language Pathologist therapists as well as therapy assistants and aides. Occasionally provides direct patient care as a rehabilitation therapy professional.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Manages the operations of the assigned department to meet the clinical needs of providers, staff and residents/patients. Manages administrative, technical, staffing operations of the assigned area to ensure quality, access, efficiency and budget goals are achieved.
- Provides appropriate supervision and guidance for department staff. Ensures that staff are properly trained and oriented to meet resident/patient care needs.
- Oversees the staffing and scheduling of therapy staff to meet department needs.
- Ensures that the department operates within all MVHS, professional, regulatory and accreditation standards. Actively participates in regulatory audits and reviews as necessary.
- Evaluates services regularly and maintains standards of quality. Ensures equipment, activities and procedures are safe, functional and capable of meeting the rehabilitative needs of facility customers. Ensures all therapy documentation is complete, accurate and timely.
- With the Director, coordinates quality improvement activities and participates on system committees.
- Updates, communicates, monitors and enforces policies, procedures and other work processes.
- Provides input into departmental budgets and evaluates cost-benefits analysis of services and operations in assigned area. Recommends new equipment or activities based on developments or best practices in rehabilitation services. Develops and implements plans or schedules for the procurement, maintenance and replacement of therapeutic tools and equipment within assigned area.
- Keeps current in trends and developments in a full range of rehabilitative services activities and encourages staff to do the same. Develops improvements to service and efficiency when possible.
- Establishes an effective communication system for staff including periodic departmental meetings. Promotes open and candid communication among employees and between employees and management.
- Serves as a resource and role model for staff within the department and the facility.
- Plays a role in EMR optimization.
- In partnership with facility leadership and Human Resources, makes or approves recommendations on hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other human resource issues in a fair, timely and consistent manner. Manages the completion of performance reviews and incident reports. Coaches, counsels and disciplines employees to correct performance deficiencies in partnership with HR.
- May provide rehabilitation therapy when patient volumes dictate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited rehabilitation therapy program.
- Minimum 3 years as a rehabilitation therapist.
- Minimum 1 year in a supervisory or management role.
- In depth knowledge of best practices in a variety of rehabilitative therapy practices.
- Ability to perform duties of a staff therapist when needed.
- Proven leadership qualities, e.g., maturity, job knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, etc. to lead, guide and motivate others.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and HER technology.
PREFERRED:
- Completion of master’s degree or higher in a Rehabilitative related field program
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- NY state license as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist.
