Manager of Decision Support - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

The Manager Decision Support is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all activities related to the design, development and implementation of organizational reporting and analytics. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of business/clinical systems, data warehousing, data collection and reporting.  This role will work closely with leadership, clinical, finance, medical group, administrative and external stakeholders to understand their data needs, develop robust analytics and reporting solutions and prepare meaningful analyses. They will promote the organization's effective use of data to deliver actionable insights that drive business growth, quality outcomes and, clinical and operational excellence. 

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Manages the team of technically oriented business and clinical analysts who support department and service line leaders in understanding organizational performance and meeting clinical and financial objectives.  
  • Lead and manage vetted data analytics projects, ensuring timely delivery, efficient resource utilization, and adherence to project objectives and milestones.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify their data needs, define key performance indicators (KPIs), and design relevant reports and dashboards to support key clinical and operational initiatives.
  • Develop/support/implement a framework to leverage data to provide timely and accurate information for  planning, forecasting, monitoring and decision support for the improvement of both cost and quality in the delivery of care across the continuum. 
  • In collaboration with the Finance team, implements cost accounting data within the decision support tool to accurately capture and maintain procedural costs for the health systems operations.
  • Actively participates in data governance including standardization of data definitions and mapping strategies to ensure consistent formats across the organization.
  • Evaluate and select and implement new technologies and development tools for reporting, dashboards, BI application design, development, testing and documentation.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in data analytics, business intelligence, and healthcare industry trends, and incorporate relevant advancements into the organization's practices
  • Effectively demonstrate and articulate the causal effects of decreasing variation, identification of best practice, utilization of resources and services, and compliance with requirements of third party payers, regulatory agencies, and accrediting bodies.
  • Leads the processes for preparing annual operating and capital budgets including developing volume projections, expense targets, and other financial items.  
  • Participates in performance improvement and project management teams as subject matter expert in data analytics and performance measures.
  • With the Director and Human Resources guidance, provides input to or makes recommendations on employee hires, performance reviews, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other staff problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner also in conjunction with Human Resources. 
  • Provide staff members with training, coaching and support on data analytics tools, reporting capabilities, and data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Makes recommendations on team performance, management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc.  
  • Collaborates with other technology leaders with regards to all aspects to Cogito analytics and Epic reporting including participating on Epic leadership calls and Epic upgrade planning and build.
  • Collaborates with Cogito Analytics technical support (TS) on complex reporting tools, analytics and build.
  • Collaborates with Cogito systems analysts on database management and development as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Hospital Administration, Data Management, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Five years of experience in financial planning, financial systems, data analytics or budgeting with at least two years in health care
  • Two years of experience supervising, monitoring, evaluating, training and motivating staff
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical and business systems, data warehousing, data collection and reporting
  • Advanced Knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Business Intelligence concepts
  • Knowledge of hospital decision support and EMR systems, EPSi and Epic 
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills are necessary in dealing with a variety of healthcare and finance professionals 
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills and team leadership skills are required to develop and implement efficient work processes
  • Ability to assess and evaluate complex financial data via use of computer analysis
     

PREFERRED:

  • Ten years of experience in healthcare finance.
  • Master’s degree. 
  • Epic Cogito Fundamentals Certification
  • Epic Project Management Certification
  • Experience with Tableau, SPSS or other visualization and statistical tools
  • MS SQL experience
