Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Operations Manager, the Pharmacy Technician II utilizes special knowledge and background of drug terminology, assists pharmacists in the preparation and delivery of medications.  Helps maintain records and drug inventories.  Maintains dispensing and store room areas in neat, clean, and stocked condition for safe and efficient operation of the Pharmacy.  Assists pharmacist and the Pharmacy in provision or required services and meeting goals and objectives.

Core Job Responsibilities

•    Prepares medications for dispensing under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, demonstrating accuracy, precision, and consistency relating to selection, packaging and labeling functions
•    Accurately prepares and labels medication for dispensing from computer fill lists
•    Fills assigned unit dose cassettes in an accurate and timely manner
•    Accurately prepares stock solutions and compounded items
•    Prepares enhanced sterile product medications
•    Repackages medications according to department policies
•    Performs Nursing Station Inspections
•    Prepare controlled drugs for substocks on the nursing units
•    Delivers controlled substances to nursing areas in a timely fashion
•    Prepares lock boxes for anesthesia and PACU following prescribed department policies
•    Demonstrates effective phone skills
•    Performs weekly controlled substance inventories
•    Prepares code cart trays and special kits for nursing units
•    Accurately and efficiently delivers medications to patient care areas
•    Consistently and thoroughly checks patient medication bins at cassette exchange
•    Prepares Central Supply or Surgery order properly as assigned
•    Reviews and restocks night medication cabinet
•    Knowledge of the Admission, Discharge and Transfer procedures
•    Informs pharmacy purchasing when medications need to be reordered
•    Reviews and places wholesaler orders as required
•    Perform other duties as required.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year as Pharmacy Technician I
