Job Summary

This position is responsible for the safe, comfortable, courteous, timely transport of patients via prescribed transport vehicles. The Transport Tech is responsible for working with the nursing staff to assist in the patient care related to the transfer and transport of the patient to and from the nursing unit. Responsible for the delivery of equipment and reallocation of transport devices to various areas within the organization. Greeting customers/ patients and responding to their needs questions in the main lobby. Ensures a clean and safe environment by maintaining safety standards and performing cleaning in the main lobby as needed. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Transports patients and adjunct equipment via prescribed vehicles between designated areas in a safe, timely, and accurate manner, in accordance with defined regulatory and accreditation standards, and Hospital policies, procedures and practices.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff on the patient’s specific clinical situation including the transfer to and from mode of transport, required nursing to be involved.
  • Assesses O2 tank remaining capacity utilizing the O2 flow charts provided. Notifies Nursing immediately when the levels are too low for safe transport ensuring patient safety.
  • Correctly and promptly logs into Service Tracking. Utilizes IVR continuously to assure accurate status. Dispatches on assigned tasks, when idle, promptly.
  • Develops and maintains organizational skills essential to the performance of job duties to ensure the uninterrupted flow of work in the Service Tracking system.
  • Delivers clean and retrieves dirty equipment, inspects units for unused transport vehicles and those vehicles needing necessary repairs on patient care units and other designated areas in a safe, timely and accurate manner. Looks up patient locations in the AS400 system per policies and procedures and HIPAA as assigned.
  • Promotes patient safety by engaging our patients and putting the patient at the center of everything we do while on shift. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors, organizational policies and procedures as established by the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct booklet.
  • Greets, communicates and responds to customer questions following scripting; “Good (morning/afternoon/evening), my name is (your name), can I assist you in any way?”.
  • Follows scripting when approaching patient for transport. Utilizes patient identifiers, transport logs and ensures patients are wearing legible id bracelet BEFORE transporting.
  • Maintains open communication with the Service Response Center, calling SRC when there are questions with your assigned tasks, missing patient identifiers in tasks, for break and lunch, or any other needs, as necessary.

Education Requirements

Required: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
