Job Summary

Arranges for the efficient and accurate registration of patients of all patient types, excluding the emergency department. In the absence of a Cashier, performs cashier related duties.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Uses pre-determined interviewing techniques and scripting when obtaining information from patients and/or patient representatives
  • Practices pre-determined MPI search criteria and notifies Training Coordinator of any duplicate medical record numbers
  • Checks AccuReg daily and corrects errors timely
  • Ensures that all accounts are corrected prior to final bill drop
  • Assigns and changes guarantors accurately, further ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Checks bulletin board/groupwise email for errors and new procedures on a daily basis.
  • Understands, explains, and completes required facility forms before obtaining/witnessing patient signatures
  • Collects Point of Service collections and processes transactions as outlined in the department’s POS collection policy
  • Refers patient or patient representative to the Financial Counselor for payment arrangements or questions regarding bills
  • Maintains a neat, well-organized workstation with adequate supplies
  • As requested by Management, completes other tasks, including covering in other areas of PAS.
  • Does Petty Cash drawer count as shift change and as required
  • Delivers/creates packets, as required
  • Uses Pathways Compliance Advisor software to check for medical necessity when appropriate and generates ABN form as needed
  • Makes outgoing phone calls and does pre-registrations
  • Utilizes Quadramed to print schedules for pre-registration purposes as well as to determine if patient is scheduled for service.
  • Registers walk-in patient’s and reviews physician orders (scripts)
  • In the absence of a Cashier, takes both patient and non-patient payments
  • In the absence of a Cashier, performs cashier duties such as making change, petty cash payouts and issuing taxicab fare
  • In the absence of a Cashier, maintains cash drawer and the “cash drawer & deposit log”

Education Requirements

Required: High School diploma

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Preferred: Medical Office or related professional certification
