Job Summary

Utilizing special knowledge and background of drug terminology, assists pharmacist in the preparation and delivery of medications. Helps maintain records and drug inventories. Maintains dispensing and store room areas in neat, clean, and stocked condition for safe and efficient operation of the Pharmacy. Assists pharmacist and the Pharmacy in provision or required services and meeting goals and objectives.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares medications for dispensing under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, demonstrating accuracy, precision, and consistency relating to selection, packaging, and labeling functions
  • Prepares and labels medication for dispensing from computer fill lists, physician order copies, or other request forms
  • Fills assigned unit dose cassettes in an accurate and timely manner
  • Prepares stock solutions and compounded items to maintain appropriate inventory levels, utilizing formula worksheets
  • Prepares enhanced sterile product medications including but not limited to, hyper alimentation, controlled substance drips, epidurals, large volume IV’s, specialized infusion solutions, Persantine, etc.
  • Performs Nursing Station Inspections as assigned and as per department policy and procedures
  • Prepare controlled drugs for substocks on the nursing units
  • Delivers controlled substances to nursing areas
  • Prepares lock boxes for anesthesia and PACU following prescribed department policies and procedures
  • Performs weekly controlled substance inventories as assigned
  • Delivers medications to patient care areas, according to established schedules, assuring timely provision of medications to patients
  • Prepares Central Supply or Surgery order properly as assigned
  • Reviews Pharmacy stock for expired or deteriorated medications as assigned
  • Processes outpatient or employee prescriptions according to policy, meeting all legal requirements

Education/Experience Requirements

Required: High school or equivalent; minimum of 6 months as Pharmacy Technician II

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Required: National PTCB certification
