REHABILITATION THERAPY AIDE

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Therapist, the Rehabilitation Therapy Aide assists Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, PTAs and COTAs, performing delegated, selected, skilled tasks in specific situations, under the direction and intense close supervision of the therapist or therapy assistant. 

                                                         

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Assists therapists as directed with therapeutic activities during therapy sessions
  • Transports patients to and from nursing units
  • Fabricates adaptive equipment under the direction of an occupational therapist on an as-needed basis
  • Prepares and transports all test materials and appropriate equipment (video chair and VCR cart) to each evaluation
  • Assures that video cart is adequately stocked, and sets up VCR, as specified in Video fluoroscopy policy and procedure prior to each evaluation, as monitored by Speech Therapy staff with no variances annually
  • Prior to each evaluation, checks that the video fluoroscopy equipment, including chair and swallowing workstation, are working properly, as well as maintained appropriately, and ensures that the Fluoro room has safety equipment present and working
  • Follow clean-up procedures for patient, room, and equipment, as noted in policy and procedures
  • Cleans clinic areas, including main gym, rehab. unit gym, training bathroom and outpatient area, wiping down mats, table tops, etc., using hospital-approved procedures
  • Maintains an inventory of chargeable supplies and reorders when necessary   
  • Carries out therapy pool maintenance responsibilities as assigned, including vacuuming and monitoring pool chemical levels
  • Provide office coverage
  • Perform other duties as required

Education/Experience Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Required:

  • CPR certification required (BLS).  (Must attend class at orientation if not previously certified)
