Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Department Supervisor or Manager, the Surgical Scheduler is responsible for accurately scheduling and pre-registering patient appointments for all designated departments in addition to performing tasks related to these functions in a work queue.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Indexes physician orders/scripts with patient’s name, test, diagnosis and department accurately
- Strives to increase script indexing productivity
- Accurately schedules patient appointments as requested by patient, physician or physician staff received via phone, fax, work queue or report
- Obtains and/or verifies patient demographic and insurance information and accurately enters into designated computer system
- Provides each patient with appropriate preparations for appointment
- Accurately enters all insurances including secondary and tertiary with correct identification numbers
- Provides patients with general information about the department, instructions on parking and general directions
- Generates patient itinerary and mails to the patient within 24 business hours of appointment being scheduled, as needed
- Ensures that all appointments are scheduled within the established time slot for each department
- Ensures that orders are compliant prior to the patient’s arrival, per protocol
- Notifies patient of copay amount due at time of registration and attempts to collect utilizing the appropriate scripting
- Performs medical necessity checks and generates ABN as required
- Appropriately posts point of service payments as outlined in the department’s POS collection policy
- Perform other duties as required
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of Medical Office or Hospital Registration or Scheduling experience required
