Supervisor - Patient Registration - Full Time - Days
Job Summary
The Supervisor Patient Registration is a working team member under the supervision of the Manager of Patient Access Services and the Director of Patient Access Services. Ensures that all staff under their supervision interviews patients and/or representatives, inputs data required for admission and/or registration and collects copays in a way as to reflect the most positive and dignified image of the Mohawk Valley Health System. Responsible for the smooth flow of Patient Registration services during the work shift.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates the work of assigned employees. Relays work instructions, distributes assignments and monitors work for quality and completeness.
- Ensures the EMTALA rule is followed in regards to ED registration not obtaining or asking about insurance information prior to the medical screening process and acuity level assigned.
- Monitors and encourages ED and Admitting staff to ensure all employees are meeting copay minimum collection goals.
- Monitors accounts and PAS staff work for quality and completeness, and to ensure insurance cards and identification cards are scanned correctly into computer systems.
- Ensures that staff collects accurate information from the patient, performing follow up on those patients not accessible for initial interview and entering the information correctly into the computer system in a timely manner.
- Ensures Patient Registrars apply patient’s identification bracelets, first verifying spelling of name and accuracy of date of birth.
- Ensures that each Registrar is meeting or exceeding their monthly registration QA goals.
- Acts as a role model for staff by maintaining professionalism, using exceptional customer service, following departmental and hospital standards and maintaining poise during stressful situations.
- Covers other areas of Patient Access Services when needed. Handles all aspects of patient registration and admitting functions especially during high census.
- Communicates clearly and works well with ancillary departments, physicians and co-workers, even during stressful situations.
- Proactively keeps Manager and Director informed of issues, concerns and progress towards goals.
- As a Supervisor, completes or assists with the completion of employee performance appraisals and 30/60/90 day evaluations/retention tools. Administers and documents disciplinary action according to Union and MVHS Human Resources guidelines and ensures each employee file is inclusive of all appropriate documentation. Keeps Manager informed of all related actions.
- Assists in orienting new or existing staff. Ensures all staff have tools, training and resources to perform their jobs.
- Completes and approves schedules in a timely and efficient manner. Handles vacation requests and callouts.
- Perform related duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED?
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Two years healthcare related experience
