Therapeutic Recreation Assistant - Full-time - Variable
Job Summary
The Therapeutic Recreation Assistant assists in planning, organizing and implementing daily activity programs which include individual, group and independent programs based on resident need, interest and individual capabilities.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Assists with the development of the monthly activity calendar of events. Posts calendar weekly and monthly in areas accessible to residents, staff and volunteers.
- Assists in informing residents of special events.
- Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of a resident and/or an unusual incident upon occurrence to supervisor and nursing staff.
- Actively participates in the organization, instruction, supervision and setup/cleanup of scheduled activities.
- Transports residents to and from activities and programs.
- Assists with the preparation of musical programs for residents as requested by supervisor.
- Visits with residents on a daily basis and encourages participation in activities, games, exercizes and events.
- Maintains work area in a clean and safe condition as observed by supervisor.
- Consistently demonstrates an awareness and understanding of resident safety.
- Follows universal/isolation precautions.
- Performs activities on weekends and evenings when assigned.
- Always labels supplies and equipment and places in designated storage areas to ensure resident safety without incident.
- Upholds departmental and facility policies according to recognized standards.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Person should have an interest in health care services and the ability to relate to people appropriately.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills needed for frequent contact with patients and other professional staff.
PREFERRED:
- 1-3 years of experience in recreational therapy or in a geriatric setting.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
PREFERRED:
- CPR Certification (BCLS)
