Emergency Room Behavioral Health Specialist

Job Summary

Under the clinical direction and administrative supervision by the Behavioral Health Supervisor/Director of Behavioral Health, responsible for providing mental health evaluations for the MVHS Wynn Hospital Emergency Room.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Perform mental health evaluations.
  • Perform discharge planning/resource linkage duties as needed with the assistance of Behavioral Health Coordinator.
  • Provide supportive counseling and mental health services for patients as ordered by physicians;
  • Collaborates with the physicians for safe discharges. Ensure proper services and education are in place to accomplish this goal;
  • Make referrals to appropriate community providers
  • Provide supportive counseling and debriefings to employees as necessary.
  • Completes required medical record documentation on a timely basis; and participates in the Quality Management Plan for the inpatient/outpatient services;
  • Provides supervision and training to Masters level interns as assigned;
  • Attends and participates in Health System’s and/or community related activities.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from Accredited Graduate Program
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to function in a collaborative environment.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:
  • NYS LMSW License within 6 months of hire date required
