Dialysis Nurse Clinician - Education - Full Time (1.0) - Day

Job Summary
The Nurse Clinician is responsible to assess educational needs of nursing staff, students and others as requested in order to plan, develop, conduct and evaluate orientation and continuing education.  The clinician serves as a resource by mentoring staff and ongoing monitoring/evaluation of clinical competencies to assure the highest quality clinical outcomes and  safety.  The Nurse Clinician participates in assigned councils and committees to facilitate the implementation of and reinforce evidenced based  care at MVHS.  They assure that nurses are in full compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies standards as outlined for Registered Nurses in the NYS Education Law, NYS Office of the Professions,  the New York State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and ANA Standards of Care.  The Nurse Clinician will act as a role model to all staff by following and supporting the mission, vision and I-CARE values of MVHS. 
         
Core Job Responsibilities
1 20% Directs Orientation Programs - The Nurse Clinician identifies orientation needs of new employees, plans an individualized orientation and evaluates the employee's progress toward achievement of competency. They ensure that new employees are scheduled for mandated formal programs required for the specific department.  The Nurse Clinician documents progress per MVHS's competency policy and addresses issues in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.
2 25% Annual Competency and Continuing Education - The Nurse Clinician plans, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs for the staff and the community. They contribute to professional development of peers and colleagues through innovative programs in both a classroom setting and on the nursing units. The Nurse Clinician works  collaboratively with the Nurse Manager to assess the educational needs of staff.
3 25% Monitors Clinical Practice - The Nurse Clinician assesses the practice of nursing staff and students in their assigned area. This is done through direct observation, chart reviews and participation in quality monitors. They develop a plan to educate staff based on the identified needs to ensure the safe, high quality patient care is consistently provided.
4 10% Acts as a Professional Mentor - The Nurse Clinician works with staff on all shifts and creates an environment which fosters professional growth and development. Supports and role models all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors. Provides clean and constructive feedback to educate in an effective manner.
5 10% Supports Nursing Practice - The Nurse Clinician participates in the development of standards of nursing care practice through participation in assigned committees and workgroups. Works collaboratively with other health care professionals and other departments.
6 10% Service Excellence - The Nurse Clinician supports and role models the policies and procedures of MVHS to ensure we provide excellent service to our patients and their families/visitors that meet or exceed expectations. This is done through empathetic and compassionate patient-centered care and addressing needs and concerns in a timely manner.
         
Education Requirements
Required Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or enrolled in an accredited program
Preferred Master’s Degree in nursing
         
Licensure /Certification Registration Requirements
Required Valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse licensure in the state of New York
Preferred Certification in area of specialty
         
Required Experience
Required Minimum of two (2) years in area of specialty
