Job Description: 

Within parameters of collaborative relationship with anesthesia, the Nurse Practitioner will review the patient’s history and physical, laboratory studies, and diagnostic tests to proactively address any abnormal findings and optimize the patient’s surgical outcomes. The Nurse Practitioner (provides leadership that supports hospital and departmental policies and contributes to the achievement of goals while influencing change in the healthcare delivery system) will provide leadership and oversight regarding the daily operations of the Pre Admission Department.


5 years OR clinical perioperative experience with 2 years experience in the Nurse Practitioner role preferred. (If you feel this is appropriate)

Specific responsibilities include:

    • Review health history from patient, family, and other accessible sources
    • Demonstrates knowledge of routine laboratory data
    • Identifies patient problem and communicates with physician in a timely manner (Seeks consultation from the consulting physician and other members of the healthcare team)
    • Demonstrates clear communication skills while dealing with staff, physicians, and colleagues
    • Make age appropriate assessments of patient needs and/or problems
    • Interacts with patients in an appropriate manner, sensitive to his/her stages of human development
    • Actively participates in development of practice guidelines, hospital committees, and interacts with other staff members, as appropriate
    • Provides formal and/or informal in-services to nursing staff, as appropriate
    • Participates in active patient teaching relevant to patient’s concerns/diagnoses including, but not limited to, preventative health maintenance issues
    • Understands and conceptualized the role of the Nurse Practitioner while demonstrating an ability to inform the public and hospital staff regarding the role
    • Acts as a liaison between patient, hospital staff, physician, and between nursing staff and physician
    • Exhibits a commitment to teamwork


  • Maintain licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of New York
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner educational program registered by the New York State Education Department or its equivalent as qualifying for certification
  • Maintain certification as issued by the New York State Education Department in at least one designated specialty area
  • Establishment of a collaborative practice agreement


  • Maintain biennial certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers; requires confirmatory documentation upon date of appointment
  • Applicants with exceptions to Regulatory Qualifications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by designated representative(s) of the Medical Staff Credentialing Committee
