Job Summary
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or physician, the Medical Assistant (MA) provides direct and indirect patient care in an office setting. The Medical Assistant (MA) records, facilitates and assists with patient examination and treatment. The Medical Assistant (MA) assists and/or covers absences within the office, as assigned,including but not limited to patient reception, answering telephones, registration, scheduling of appointments and obtaining medical records. The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to the provider, as assigned.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Observes, collects, records, and reports selected data related to patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental and self-care ability.
- Provides direct patient care by assisting with any office procedures and, when appropriate, may explain procedures and interventions to patient/family.
- Prepares patient for examination: measures and documents vital statistics and other pertinent data of patient, drapes patient, etc.
- Assists provider with medical procedures (sterile and non-sterile).
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination. Positions instruments and equipment.
- Ensures adequate stock of supplies.
- Assures that medical records are complete, with all necessary data prior to patient visit.
- Contacts diagnostic service/consulting physician to obtain required information, when necessary.
- Observes changes in patient conditions, reports to provider and documents on clinical record.
- Maintains established inventory levels of medical supplies, under direction RN/LPN including soiled instruments, sterile supplies, stock supplies.
- Responds appropriately to patient’s issues and notifies the office manager.
- Interacts professionally with patient and family.
- Answers incoming telephones, assessing caller’s needs and advising caller accordingly.
- As assigned, assists clerical staff to cover absences (retrieves charts, answers phones, schedules appointments, data entry into EMR, and patient reception and registration).
- Performs other duties as needed.
Education/Experience Requirements
Required:
- One year experience as a Medical Assistance
- Computer skills
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Required:
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA);
- CPR Certification
